Current Playoff Scenarios:
MAGIC NUMBER OF WINS: 2
MAGIC NUMBER OF POINTS: 91
1 – Minnesota has a 5 point lead with Minnesota having 3 games left and Colorado having 4. If Minnesota wins two of their last three games outright in either regulation or overtime, Minnesota will advance, regardless of Colorado's performance. (COL's total possible points = 90)
2 - Minnesota will clinch the 8th playoff spot tonight if Minnesota wins tonight and Colorado loses in regulation.
3 - If Minnesota and Colorado ends the season tied in points, Colorado will advance into the playoffs based on their future ROW, which will have to total 37 or 38, in every possible case, excluding complications due to shootout victories.*
4 – Because of the ROW, Minnesota must lead Colorado at the end of the season in points to advance, unless the shootout victories exception happens (which is highly, highly unlikely).
NOTE: There are multiple different scenarios that can develop if either team takes a shootout win. If a team obtains a shootout win, the PSA will detail all of those different options in the next PSA.

Previous Game Recap: Wild @ Detroit, April 1st
Detroit 3 – 2 Wild
4/2/16, 6:17 AM
by FreeCandyVanDriver
Minnesota traveled to Detroit to play the back end of a 'home-and-away' Friday night, and the exhaustion from the game the night previous and travel showed, as Minnesota never got humming in a tough 3-2 loss against a desperate Detroit club. The Red Wings always looked like the team to beat in a contest that neither team truly brought their best game.
Minnesota matched favorably with their strengths against a Red Wings side that could be exploited in the transition game, but were unable for the second straight game to develop an effective defensive zone clearance. Continually hampered by an aggressive forecheck, Minnesota rarely got into the offensive zone cleanly, and when they did, they rarely created scoring chances on their own. The Wild did get many great looks however – it just that most were gifts of a Detroit defense that looked at times to be confused with the forecheck pressure and well as basic defensive positioning during their own transitions.
Dubnyk, who got the start when most expected to see Kuemper in, again failed to secure a win on the second night of a back-to-back this season. He was hassled early by an aggressive Detroit team, and rattled his cage. The first two goals are, while not totally on Dubnyk, an expected result of a poor initial positioning from a goalie that has shown poor positioning in the second game of back-to-back starts all season. While Dubnyk settled into the game after the first two goals, going down 0-2 is a recipe for disaster for Minnesota – and they never got into a position to play on an even footing for the rest of the evening. Hamstrung by Spurgeon's absence, the defense showed some issues, as Nate Prosser got a night out of the press box, only to finish the night with a -2 +/- on 11:21 TOI.
Strong performances from players that needed it: Brodin bagged a beauty of a goal from the point, and Granlund pure sniped a top shelf goal that looked sensational. Great defensive responsibility from players like Pominville, Parise, Haula and Zucker were overshadowed in an otherwise mid-level performance from a Wild team that needed to bring more urgency than they did to own the playoff race heading into the last three games.

Wild Notes:
4/3/16, 5:21 AM
by FreeCandyVanDriver
Minnesota travels to Winnipeg tonight bringing a two-game losing streak against a team that is playing only for pride. Winnipeg has not rolled over since being eliminated from the playoffs, however, playing aggressive hockey that has resulted in high scoring affairs for both Winnipeg and their opponents. While the Wild don't have to win tonight, a win would go a long way to giving them some breathing room just before the playoffs.
Winnipeg plays a physically aggressive style, and look to capitalize on creating turnovers through heavy contact. Minnesota can exploit Winnipeg's aggressive style with speed and generating odd-man rushes, but Minnesota will find it difficult to establish extended offensive zone time by cycling the puck. Success against Winnipeg comes from taking shots, crashing the net, and taking advantage of rebound opportunities. While Minnesota has the tools for success in players like Parise, Jones, Neiderreiter and Vanek camping out in front of the net, it will require the rest of the team to find ways of getting shots through traffic in front of the net.
In roster news, Minnesota saw the return of David Jones, who looked to get his feet under him after a first period of shaking the rust off. Zucker returned from the press box to an underrated defensive performance, but looked a step behind on the attack. There's a feeling that Schroeder, who was benched in favor of Zucker, might get the start tonight, but look for Head Coach John Torchetti to hedge his bets that Zucker's 'dagger' presence poses a grater threat to Winnipeg and keeps him in the lineup tonight. Long absent Ryan Carter is still absent for personal reasons (birth of his third daughter) and there is no announced return date at this time. Jared Spurgeon, who missed the game against Detroit after injuring his foot blocking a shot against Ottawa the previous night, is travelling with the team and is a game-time decision on if he returns to the lineup.
The playoff race is grinding along, with time now being the determining factor between a Minnesota club that refuses to slam the door and a Colorado team that refuses to open the door. Both teams are developing losing streaks that have zero points taken in either of the last two games for either team. It's looks to be a race of “we'll leave the door open for you” versus “we're not coming in no matter how open you leave the door.” Look for Minnesota's game against Winnipeg to be the best chance for the Wild to create a bit of a cushion, while the Avs game against St. Louis looks to serve as a last grasp at a playoff race that is slipping away under the sands of time as compared to an opponent that just outpaces them down the final stretch.
